Afternic is a third-party marketplace where domain owners can list existing domains for sale. You list a domain through Afternic, enable Fast Transfer, and confirm ownership with an authorization code so the domain can transfer automatically when it sells. This article explains how the process works with an OpenSRS-managed domain.
About Afternic
Afternic is a domain marketplace for existing domains. The owner lists a domain through Afternic's website and must approve each listing through an approval email. If the owner does not follow the instructions in that email, the listing request is cancelled.
Note: If you receive an Afternic approval email but did not initiate a listing, someone may have entered the wrong domain by mistake. You can ignore the verification email in that case.
Warning: Afternic is not affiliated with Tucows Inc. Contact Afternic's support team for questions about their service.
Step 1: Create an Afternic account
Set up an account with the marketplace before listing.
- Create an account at Afternic.com.
Step 2: Add the domain and price
List the domain in Afternic's Domain Listing Service (DLS).
- Sign in to your Afternic account.
- Add the domain name and your desired price to the Domain Listing Service (DLS).
- Enable Fast Transfer for the domain.
Step 3: Confirm ownership
Tucows sends a confirmation email to the registrant to verify ownership.
- Open the email Tucows sends to the registrant, which includes a link to opt the domain into the DLS.
- Follow the link and provide the domain's authorization code to prove ownership.
What happens when the domain sells
If the domain subsequently sells, it transfers to the new owner immediately through Fast Transfer, with no further action required from the registrant.
