The Manage Web Interface (MWI)

The Manage Web Interface (MWI) is the end-user management portal where your registrants can view and change their own domain records. Registrants sign in with the username and password set at the time of registration and update contacts, nameservers, locking, and forwarding without contacting you. The MWI is a shared management interface for resellers who do not run their own management system.

About the MWI

The MWI gives registrants self-service control over the attributes their TLD permits them to change, including domain ownership. Which options appear depends on the TLD and on the permissions you choose to grant.

If you prefer a branded experience, you can implement a customized version of the MWI and build specific functionality into it. Templates for a custom interface are included in the full-access scripts.

Note: A registrant signs in with the domain name plus the registrant username and password chosen during registration, not with your reseller credentials.

Step 1: Sign in to the MWI

Direct registrants to the MWI sign-in page and have them authenticate against the domain they want to manage.

  1. Go to the MWI sign-in page.
  2. Enter the domain name to manage, along with the registrant username and password.
  3. Click Manage domain.

Management options in the MWI

After signing in, registrants see a set of sections for managing the domain. The sections below describe what each one controls.

Manage profile

The profile section controls who owns and administers the domain record. From here, a registrant can:

  • Change the username and password that control the domain, typically to hand control to someone else.
  • Move the domain to another profile, either to transfer control or to organize how names are grouped.
  • Assign sub-user access so another person can manage part or all of the domain's information.

Manage contacts

The contacts section holds the four contact roles attached to the domain.

  • Organization contact. The company or entity the domain is registered to. The organization for .CO.UK and .ORG.UK names cannot be changed through this interface.
  • Admin contact. The contact with authority to make changes to the domain records.
  • Billing contact. The contact responsible for billing matters. Keep this record accurate so renewal notices reach the right person and service is not interrupted.
  • Technical contact. The contact considered authoritative for web hosting, mail, and other DNS records. This is often an ISP or web host, but it can be anyone the registrant chooses. By default it is populated from the reseller's technical contact profile.

Nameservers and DNS

This section manages the nameservers and zone records for a domain. Registrants can edit zone information only when the domain uses the default systemDNS nameservers. They can also create custom nameservers based on their own domain names here.

Domain extras

Domain extras hold information that does not fit the other sections, such as the auth code for EPP domains, email forwarding options for .name domains, and .US Nexus information.

Reseller contact

This section shows the reseller contact for the registrant and lets the registrant opt out of displaying that information in WHOIS.

Domain locking

This section shows whether the domain is locked or unlocked. While a domain is locked, transfers and DNS modifications cannot be made until it is unlocked. You decide whether registrants can lock and unlock their own domains through the MWI.

Domain forwarding

This section lets registrants forward their domains to another destination. Forwarding works only when the domain uses the default systemDNS nameservers, and the forwarding IP address 64.99.64.37 must be added as an A record on the root domain or sub-domain.

Warning: Forwarding will not function if the domain points to custom nameservers. Confirm the domain uses systemDNS before enabling it.
