Pushing an Email Domain to a New Reseller

You can push an email domain from your reseller or company account to another reseller or company on the same email cluster. A push reassigns the domain and all of its users to the gaining reseller while preserving every user, message, and setting. This guide walks through setting the required permissions and then completing the push.

About domain pushes

A push transfers a domain between two companies on the same cluster. In a push, the reseller giving up the domain is the losing reseller, and the reseller receiving it is the gaining reseller. After the transfer, the gaining reseller is billed for the domain in the next full billing cycle.

Both companies set their permissions once. After that, you do not need to set them again, and you can push an unlimited number of domains between the two resellers.

Note: Both resellers must be on the same email cluster for a push to work.

Before you begin

  • MAC access. Both the losing and gaining resellers need administrator access to the Mail Administration Console (MAC).
  • The losing reseller's company_id. The gaining reseller needs this value to authorize the push.

Step 1: Set permissions for the losing reseller

The losing reseller locates the company ID that the gaining reseller will need.

  1. Log in to the MAC.
  2. Go to your Company settings page in the MAC.
  3. Find the Domain Push section at the bottom of the page.
  4. Note your company_id value and provide it to the gaining reseller.

Step 2: Set permissions for the gaining reseller

The gaining reseller authorizes the losing reseller to push domains to their account.

  1. Obtain the losing reseller's company_id.
  2. Go to your Company settings page in the MAC.
  3. In the Allowed companies field under the Domain Push section, add the losing reseller's company_id and click Update.
  4. Inform the losing reseller that the permissions are set so they can complete the push.

Tip: Add an address to the Notification Email field to receive an email each time a domain is pushed to your account from an authorized reseller.

Step 3: Push the domain

Once both resellers have set their permissions, the losing reseller completes the push.

  1. Log in to the MAC.
  2. Go to your Company domains settings page in the MAC.
  3. In the push section, click Push Domain.
  4. In the confirmation pop-up, click Push.

The transfer completes, and the gaining reseller sees the domain in their list of domains.

Warning: If no brand is set for the transferred domain, it reverts to the gaining reseller's default company settings after the push, and end users may notice a difference in layout and features. If a brand is set before the push, the settings transfer, but the brand becomes unlabelled and uneditable; the gaining reseller must create a new brand with the desired settings and assign it to the domain.
