Cancelling a Reseller Account

Closing your OpenSRS reseller account requires removing all active services and confirming your contact details before support can finalize the closure. This article walks through each prerequisite step and shows you how to contact support to complete the cancellation. Follow it in order so your account closes promptly and any refund cheque reaches the correct address.

Note: Before cancelling, contact OpenSRS support — the team can often help resolve the issue you are facing or find a solution that works for your business.

Before you begin

  • You need access to the OpenSRS Reseller Web Interface (RWI) at rr-n1-tor.opensrs.net/resellers.

  • Plan time to transfer or expire all active domains — accounts cannot be closed while domains remain active.

  • Have current mailing address and contact details ready so any final cheque is sent to the right place.

Warning: Accounts cannot be closed while active domains remain on the account. Transfer all active domains away (or let them expire and complete their lifecycle) before requesting closure.

Step 1: Update your tech contact information

  1. Log in to the RWI.

  2. In the Profile Management section at the bottom of the page, select Tech contact information.

  3. Verify and update name, address, phone number, and email as needed.

  4. Click Save changes.

Step 2: Update your reseller contact information

  1. Log in to the RWI.

  2. In the Profile Management section, select Reseller contact information.

  3. Verify or update your address in the Mailing address information section.

  4. Click Save changes.

Tip: Accurate mailing details ensure any refund cheque from a positive remaining balance reaches the correct address.

Step 3: Remove all remaining services

Active products must be removed before closure so you are not billed for future service and so registrants are not left without support.

Note: .adm accounts are management users, not mailboxes, so they do not need to be deleted as email users.

You are responsible for transferring domains to a different reseller or registrar. Domains set to expire will delete automatically at the end of their lifecycle, but transferring is the fastest path to closure.

Step 4: Contact support to close the account

Once all services are removed and your contact details are current, contact OpenSRS support to request account closure.

Next steps

  • Confirm zero active services: Review your domain list, email domains, email users, and trust orders before contacting support.

  • Verify mailing details: Double-check the address on file in the RWI so any refund cheque arrives correctly.

  • Reach out before cancelling: Contact OpenSRS support to discuss alternatives that might keep your business running on the platform.
