Parked Pages Program

The Parked Pages Program lets you earn revenue from domains that are not currently in use. When a domain is parked, it displays a customized page of contextual ads, and the ad revenue is split 50/50 between you and OpenSRS. This article explains how the program works and how to enable, find, and opt out of it.

About the Parked Pages Program

When a parked domain's ads are clicked, the resulting revenue is shared evenly between OpenSRS and you, and your share is added to your reseller account after the end of each month. The domain still belongs to the registrant even though it displays content you did not create. A WHOIS lookup shows the registrant's information unless they have enabled Contact Privacy.

Note: Changes to the parked state for .CA domains may take up to 48 hours to take effect, because of the registry's (CIRA) zone-file publication schedule.

Enable parking by default for new registrations

To maximize parking revenue, configure your account so new domains use the OpenSRS Parked Pages nameservers automatically.

  1. In the Domains section of the Control Panel, choose Domain Settings from the Actions drop-down list.
  2. In the Default Nameservers Settings section, click Edit.
  3. Under Nameserver Provider, select Park with Ads, then click Save.

All new registrations then use the Parked Pages nameservers. You can still override this for a specific domain, either at registration or afterward.

Add parking to an existing domain

You can park any non-expired domain that is under your management and not currently in use. When you park a domain, OpenSRS saves its original DNS so you can disable parking later and restore it.

  1. In the Domains section, search for the domain and click its name.
  2. In the Nameservers section, click Edit.
  3. Under Nameserver Provider, select Park with Ads, then click Save. Once the new DNS settings propagate, the domain displays the parked page.

Add parking when registering a domain

You can park a new domain at the time you register it.

  1. In the Domains section, click the plus sign (+).
  2. Search for the domain you want to register. If the exact name is available, the registration form appears; otherwise, choose an available name from the results and click Register Now.
  3. Complete the registration form.
  4. In the Nameservers section, select Park with Ads.
  5. Click Save as Draft or Submit Registration.

Add parking when renewing a domain

You can park a domain at the same time you renew it.

  1. In the Domains section, search for the domain and click its name.
  2. In the Nameservers section, click Edit, select Park with Ads under Nameserver Provider, then click Save.
  3. From the Actions drop-down list, choose Renew.
  4. Select a renewal period and click Renew.

Add parking when transferring a domain

You can park a domain that is being transferred to your management.

  1. In the Domains section, click the plus sign (+) and search for the domain to transfer.
  2. Beside the domain name, click Transfer and complete the form.
  3. In the Nameservers section, click Edit, select Park with Ads, then click Save.
  4. Click Save as Draft or Submit Registration.

Find domains that display parked pages

Use Advanced Filtering to list which of your domains are currently parked.

  1. In the Domains section, click Advanced Filtering.
  2. Under Domain Parked, ensure On is checked and Off is not.
  3. Click Apply.

Opt out of the Parked Pages Program

You can opt a domain out of parking at any time, for example when a registrant is ready to launch their own website. When you opt out, the DNS automatically reverts to the settings in place before the domain was parked.

  1. In the Domains section, search for the domain and click its name.
  2. In the Nameservers section, click Edit.
  3. Under Nameserver Provider, select one of the following:
  • Use Our Nameservers. The domain is assigned the default OpenSRS nameservers.
  • Use Your Own Nameservers. Specify your own nameservers (a minimum of two is required).

Warning: Once you opt a domain out of the Parked Pages Program, you can no longer generate parking revenue from it.
