Default domain settings in your reseller account are applied to new domain registrations. When you start a new registration, the values you set here pre-fill the corresponding fields in the registration form. You can edit any of these values at the time of registration if needed.
About default domain settings
You configure default settings in the Settings tab of the Domains section in the Reseller Control Panel. The page is organized into several sections that control registration behavior, nameservers, DNS templates, contact information, and premium domain handling.
Step 1: Configure default settings for new domains
Use this section to specify the settings applied to new domain registrations.
- In the Domains section of the Reseller Control Panel, click the Settings tab.
- Click Edit to access the default settings, then use the check boxes to enable or disable each option.
- Click Save default settings.
The available options are grouped as follows:
Section | Setting | What it does |
|---|---|---|
Registration settings | Queue all unprocessed orders | Queues transactions automatically when a registry is offline, then processes them once the registry is available again. |
Registration settings | Process immediately | Processes registration requests right away. |
Domain settings | Auto-renew | Renews domains automatically before their expiration date. |
Domain settings | Lock domain | Prevents transfers and DNS modifications until the domain is unlocked. |
Domain settings | Contact privacy | Hides the registrant's identity in the WHOIS database. |
Technical contact info | Default technical contact | Sets the contact to be reached for technical issues. |
Step 2: Set default nameserver settings
Use the Default nameserver settings section to choose the nameservers applied to new registrations. You can later edit these for specific domains. Click Edit, choose a provider option, then click Save.
- Use our nameservers. Assigns the default OpenSRS nameservers (ns1.systemdns.com, ns2.systemdns.com, and ns3.systemdns.com). These records are required to use the DNS and zone features in the control panel.
- Park with ads. Displays a customized page with sponsored advertisements that generate revenue when a visitor clicks a link.
- Use your own nameservers. Lets you specify your own nameservers (minimum of two). With this option, DNS and zone information is not active, so existing forwarding and DNS options are disabled.
Step 3: Manage DNS templates
Use the Manage DNS templates section to create templates of your most frequently used zone settings. When you register a domain, you select a template and its zone settings are applied automatically. Click Edit to configure templates, then click Save DNS settings.
Step 4: Manage end-user contact settings
Use the Manage end-user contact settings section to configure the default technical information sent for all new registrations. Click Edit to configure, then click Save settings.
Additional options
- Enable Registry Premium Domains. Allows registration and transfer of registry premium domains.
- Enable Designated Agent for all existing domains. Controls the Designated Agent setting used with the ICANN trade policy.
Next steps
- Review Contact Privacy Service before enabling it by default.
- See Locking or Unlocking Domains for how the lock setting behaves.
