Enable the SiteLock Product and Seal

SiteLock is a website security service that scans for malware, vulnerabilities, and reputation issues, and displays a trust seal to reassure your customers' site visitors. Once you place an order for a SiteLock product, you need to complete a short setup in the SiteLock account before the seal becomes live on the customer's website. This article walks you through verification, order statuses, and the steps to activate the SiteLock product and install the trust seal.

About the SiteLock product tiers

SiteLock offers three website security products. The right tier depends on what the website hosts and the level of protection your customer needs.

  • Find — Provides simple, affordable protection from hackers, blacklisting by search engines, and many other website hazards.
  • Fix — Provides a comprehensive suite of protection and detection tools.
  • Prevent — Offers the highest level of protection for customers who already use SSL, run a shopping cart or databases, or store customer data on their site.

How SiteLock verification works

All SiteLock packages go through domain, telephone, and address verification. However, only domain validation is required to activate the product.

  • Domain verification — The customer submits an email address at the domain being secured. If the domain is within your reseller account, approval is typically automatic and completes shortly after the order is placed, so no further domain verification is usually required.
  • Telephone verification — An automated system calls the submitted phone number to confirm it is valid.
  • Postal address verification — Takes 7–10 days. The customer is mailed a document containing a code to enter in the control panel.
  • Manual verification — Outside the checks above, SiteLock representatives may review the submitted information.
  • Malware scanning — Checks for malware, viruses, SQL injections, and cross-site scripting vulnerabilities.

Order statuses after purchase

After you place an order for a SiteLock product, you will see two entries in the Status column for the same domain: one that says Order Completed, and one that says Product - Active.

Open the Product - Active entry to see a Manage Account option in the Actions drop-down. Selecting this option logs you in to the SiteLock website, where you can verify account information, view site statistics, and manage the account.

Before you begin

  • Confirm the SiteLock order has reached the Product - Active status in the Control Panel.
  • Make sure you have access to the customer's website so you can install the trust seal once setup is complete.

Step 1: Open the Trust section in the Control Panel

In the OpenSRS Control Panel, click Trust to view your Trust Services.

Step 2: Select the domain

Click the domain name to view the associated Trust Service. Make sure you select the entry with the status Product - Active.

Step 3: Open the SiteLock account

From the Actions drop-down list, choose Manage Account. You are automatically logged in to the SiteLock account, where you can complete the order and make changes to the account.

Step 4: Complete the SiteLock setup

Follow the on-screen steps in the SiteLock dashboard to finish configuring the product. Once the process is complete, SiteLock provides a JavaScript trust seal that you can install on the website.

Note: You can return to the SiteLock dashboard at any time by selecting Manage Account again from the same domain entry. Use this to manage the account and review alerts about issues that can affect the SiteLock seal.

Next steps

  • Install the trust seal — Add the JavaScript snippet that SiteLock provides to the customer's website so the seal displays publicly.
  • Monitor alerts — Log in periodically through Manage Account to check scan results and act on any vulnerability notifications.
  • Plan upgrades — If the customer needs more comprehensive protection, you can move them to a higher SiteLock tier at any time.
